After the Rain, Clouds Part to Reveal a Wonder — Tianzhushan Welcomes a Spectacular Sea of Clouds and Buddha Light

2026-06-21On June 20, the first clear day after the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, rain-washed Tianzhushan welcomed visitors from all directions with a magnificent spectacle of sea of clouds and Buddha light, while mist drifted through the scenic area and transformed the mountain into a fairyland-like world.

Morning Wonder
A breathtaking sea of clouds and Buddha light at dawn
At around 6:00 a.m., Tianzhushan presented the exceptionally rare double spectacle of “sea of clouds + Buddha light.”
Tianzhushan is well known for both phenomena, but neither appears every day.
Buddha light requires the perfect combination of sunlight, mist, and the right angle of elevation, while a sea of clouds depends on abundant humidity, a suitable temperature difference, and gentle wind conditions.
After the heavy Dragon Boat Festival rain, the air was rich with moisture, the contrast between day and night temperatures was pronounced, and the angle of the early morning sunlight was just right.
As clouds rolled like an ocean across the mountain, sunlight shone from behind, and a rainbow-colored Buddha light appeared above the mist, creating an extraordinarily spectacular scene that left visitors in awe.

Mountain Views
Mist-filled valleys like a celestial realm
At around 10:00 a.m., mist began to gather around the Alchemy Lake area, wrapping the lake surface in a veil of light fog.
Meanwhile, higher viewpoints such as Hundred-step Ladder and Tianchi Peak still offered broad and open views. Looking into the distance, visitors could see clouds and mist swirling through the valleys, while Tianzhu Peak appeared and disappeared within the sea of clouds.
At an elevation of 1,426 meters, Tianchi Peak is one of the best places to view the full form of Tianzhu Peak, as well as the sea of clouds and Buddha light.
Hundred-step Ladder, known for its nearly 60-degree incline and 136 stone steps, rises like a stairway into the clouds.
Standing there, surrounded by mist-wrapped valleys and layers of green peaks, visitors may feel as though they have stepped into an immortal world.
