A dreamlike Snow Lake reflects the mountains of Anhui, while the romance of the Three Kingdoms captivates visitors. On the evening of July 25, the large-scale immersive waterborne night tour performance Lakebound Dreams: Xiao Qiao’s Wedding made its splendid premiere in the historic and cultural district of Xuehu in Qianshan City, adding a brand-new cultural calling card to Qianshan’s night-tour economy.

Lakebound Dreams: Xiao Qiao’s Wedding, produced with great dedication by Anhui Tianzhushan Cultural Tourism Holding Group Co., Ltd., is a core night-tour project launched by Qianshan in line with its cultural tourism development goal of “climbing Tianzhu by day and touring Xuehu by night.” Inspired by the legendary love story of Zhou Yu and Xiao Qiao in the Three Kingdoms period, the production is divided into six acts: “Ripples of Water, Echoes of the Three Kingdoms,” “A Young Man of Jiangdong, Showcasing His Military Prowess,” “Kindred Spirits by the Wan River, A Lifelong Vow by the Bridge,” “Warm Human Fireworks, A Auspicious Night of Celebration,” “When the Wind Rises at the Green Blades’ Tips, Sword-Heart and Guqin-Heart Reflect Each Other,” and “The Flames of Red Cliffs, a Sword of Love Protecting the Mountains and Rivers.”
Moving beyond a traditional Three Kingdoms narrative, the show reconstructs the epic through a female perspective, delicately portraying Xiao Qiao’s growth, transformation, and inner awakening amid the turmoil of war, and giving this classic story a fresh contemporary meaning.

As a key visitor-attraction project within the Qianshan Huayuan Cultural Tourism Area, Lakebound Dreams: Xiao Qiao’s Wedding follows the creative concept of “a scene every few steps, a melody every hundred steps, and a performance every thousand steps.” It deeply excavates the local cultural IP of the Two Qiaos and innovatively revitalizes idle urban park space. By integrating modern light-and-shadow stage technology with the natural lake scenery and live-performance setting, the project creates an immersive waterborne performance space.

Combining cultural experience, leisure entertainment, and tourism consumption, the production fosters the deep integration of culture, tourism, and commerce. It aims to become a new landmark for Qianshan’s cultural tourism and to shape a distinctive brand effect of “traveling to a city for one show.”

Chief Producer and Chief Writer Niu Wenjia said that the production centers on three distinctive highlights: a uniquely structured script, ingenious spatial design, and a freshly reimagined musical style. The creative team interprets historical figures through contemporary aesthetics and reshapes the classic story with modern theatrical concepts. Using an artistic approach of “one body, two sides,” the show presents Xiao Qiao’s rich and layered inner world, allowing this iconic historical figure to break free from fixed stereotypes and radiate new life.

Chief Director Lu Ang, Director of the Directing Department at Shanghai Theatre Academy, said that the graceful waters of Xuehu carry the thousand-year romantic legend of Zhou Yu and Xiao Qiao. The production takes “Xiao Qiao’s Wedding” — a classic episode full of romance and dramatic tension — as its narrative core, and innovatively adopts a boat-based night tour viewing mode. In this way, static cultural heritage is brought to life and traditional history becomes dynamic. Audience members are no longer passive observers, but immersive participants in the story, experiencing a romantic wedding scene amid the flames of ancient warfare and completing a cultural journey across time through a stunning audio-visual feast, while truly sensing Qianshan’s profound cultural heritage and the warmth of the city.
