Qianshan is the ancient capital of the State of Wan and the hometown of the two Qiaos. The Huangmei musical Lakebound Dreams: Xiao Qiao's Wedding brings together a high-calibre creative team from the Shanghai Theatre Academy. Built on the romance of Zhou Yu and Xiao Qiao, it carries forward the cultural lineage of Wan, makes ingenious use of the Snow Lake night scene, blends in Huangmei vocal styles and breaks new artistic ground, presenting visitors with a Wanshi-style aesthetic live spectacular.

Under the night sky, six stirring acts unfold one after another beneath Tianzhushan and along the shores of Snow Lake. Su Shi's line — 'Think back to Gongjin in his prime, when Xiao Qiao was newly wed' — is brought vividly to life. This is no traditional stage: the whole of Snow Lake becomes the theatre. Board a boat and step into the painting as six acts light up one by one across the water. Rather than dwelling on grand historical narrative or the conventional trope of heroes and beauties, the production reframes the story from a female perspective. Xiao Qiao's independent feminine consciousness and entirely new artistic image emerge through choices between love and passion, blood and fire, family and country.
